Anti-Piracy Unit Raid in Ipswich A joint operation between PRS for Music, BPI, Suffolk Trading Standards and Suffolk police culminated in a raid on an address in Ipswich today. The investigation involved a local DJ selling prefilled hard-drives containing thousands of songs and videos for Karaoke use. The drives were being sold on for £300 each with no compensation to rights holders. The raid took place in the early morning at a residential address in Ipswich, 2 laptops, 4 hard drives, a dongle, a quantity of discs and financial records were seized. The BPI and PRS for Music had received a number of complaints from members, karaoke licensees and legitimately licensed DJs in the area. The illegal activity was having a negative impact on Karaoke, digital music device and ProDub licensing. |
